I’d gotten into a pretty good grove with posting updates to Nuketown over the last two weeks, but that all came to a crashing stop this week thanks to my cold.
It was one of those “48 hours of misery” colds, starting off as post-nasal drip and ending with a stuffed up nose and a cough. Coupled with StarGirl having some hard nights because of teething, and well, catching up on sleep suddenly became much more important that a few posts on Nuketown.
On the plus side, the cold’s now in full retreat and StarGirl’s teeth are oh-so-close to cutting through the gums, so everything should be much better next week.
…later…
I spoke too soon. 2 a.m. and StarGirl was crying. I got up and changed a wet diaper. 4 a.m., I was up again … but this time, StarGirl wouldn’t stop go back to sleep, so Sue got up with her. I just laid there, contemplating the wisdom of just getting up and trying to get some work done. 5 a.m., Sue was back in bed and StarGirl was in her crib … crying again. 5:05 a.m. I was up. StarGirl cried on and off for the next hour — despite a dose of oral gel pain killer — as I tried (and succeeded only for a few moments at a time) to distract her with puppets, Warcraft III, and a bottle.
6 a.m., and she was finally asleep again. Knowing I’d probably be late for work if I went back to sleep, I hit the shower.
So now I may not be sick any more (or at least, as sick) but I sure as hell am tired again. Ah well, like Bon Jovi said, I’ll just have to live while I’m alive, and sleep when I’m dead…
