Live video streams and vidcasts are the big thing in role-playing games right now. Combined with the throwback Netflix series Stranger Things and the 80s-infused gamer novel Ready Player One the shows have helped produce a resurgence of Dungeons & Dragons and other RPGs.
Unfortunately aside from Tabletop (which is more of a board game show than an RPG show), I haven’t had much time to watch RPG videos. Podcasts, which I can listen to while exercising, are more my speed, but with winter coming and my routine transitioning to the gym, video becomes a more viable option.
I’ve been good squirreling away shows to watch (as well as for a future Knights of the Dinner Table. If you have a recommendation for the list, email it to me at nuketown@gmail.com or post a comment on this article.
I’m particularly interested in shows that do a good job of introducing people to RPGs: what they are, how they’re played, and the tropes associated with them. As my own kids start playing D&D, other parents have been asking me for advice about how to run an RPG. I’d love to give them real-world examples of gamers in action.
