Out of all the many PCs I’ve played, Merywn the Spellsword is my favorite character. He was my second character for the Blackrazors’ Return to Temple of Elemental Evil campaign (aka the Redshirts campaign, featuring no-name, low-level minions of the Blackrazor Guild getting in WAY over their heads.
My first character, Zilanderin, died at the hands of the elemental cult. (Crosstime alternative versions of him occasionally wander out of time and space, but that’s a post for another day)
At the time, we didn’t have a wizard and kept acquiring arcane (and thus useless) magic items. I rolled up Merwyn as a wizard and he quickly acquired a ridiculous number of magic items, spells, potions, and other mystical knicknacks. It made him a ton of fun to play and became something of a running joke as I perpetually tried to keep it all organized.
He died – and was resurrected – by a cleric of Kelanen, hero-god of swords in the World of Greyhawk. In that god’s honor, he took a few levels of fighter. That gave him some much-needed hit points … and a cool sword that he wasn’t that great with.
