RPG A Day 2022 - Favorite RPG cover art

A while ago “RPG DNA” was trending on Twitter. I put together my covers, but never got around to posting something. Meanwhile, RPG a Day 2022 asked what my favorite RPG cover is, so I’m using the former to answer the latter.

D&D Basic Edition Cover — My first-ever edition of Dungeons & Dragons. Loved the view of two adventurers fighting a serpentine horror.

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Masters Guide Cover — While many consider the 1st Edition “adventurers looting an idol” Players Handbook to be their favorite, I always loved this one for the Dungeon Master’s Guide (which depicts the City of Brass on the other side.

Twilight 2000 Cover — There’s a lot of middle school nostalgia associated with this one. It captures the desperate nature of a World War III campaign.

Star Frontiers Cover — My first non-D&D game, II love how this cover throws the adventurers into the middle of some dangerous encounter.

Wow, I think I had that first D&D rulebook also! Such fun, and yes, great cover.

The Basic and 1E art is fantastic! Erol Otis is one of my favs!
