Two of the newest editions to the Geek Tree are Rey and Kylo Ren, as they appeared in Star Wars – Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. The pair, which were sold together in one box, are wielding their personal lightsabers: Kylo has his signature red, surging Sith blade while Rey has the inherited blue blade made by Anakin Skywalker. Kylo also has his re-forged Sith helmet, the one with the thin red traces marking where it was fused back together.
It’s a great pair of ornaments for the Geek Tree (and today’s Ornament-a-Day entry). While the new Star Wars trilogy may be uneven in quality, story, and pacing, the addition of Rey to Star Wars canon resonated with my family. My daughter was in middle school when The Force Awakens came out, and I loved watching her see a Star Wars hero that’s every bit as smart, tough and determined as she is. That said, while the Geek Tree had Queen Amidala and Princess Leia, it didn’t have a Rey until this year. I’m glad we remedied that deficiency.
