After too many years away, I’m headed back to my regional gaming convention, MEPACon. Held in the Poconos for many years, the convention moved to the Lehigh Valley for Fall 2022. It’s now 15 minutes from my house instead of 50, which means I can easily commute back and forth.
The convention runs November 11-13, 2022 in Bethlehem, PA and is taking place at the SureStay Plus Hotel by Best Western at 300 Gateway Dr. Bethlehem, PA.
So … what am I doing at the convention? As I mentioned on the Lair of Secrets podcast, I flirted with running several different games, which is something I usually did in the past. Then reality asserted itself, and I realized I needed to be practical and run a single game: the low-prep Gaslands Refueled. (we also talked about Gaslands way back in Season 1, Epsiode 20 of the Lair).
Gaslands is is a Deathrace inspired game featuring Matchbox cards battling it out for tabletop supremacy. It’s fast and fun, and aside from some pre-con play-testing, didn’t require a lot of work on my part.
I’m also playing a bunch of games. The RPGs were a little light this year, but that’s ok – a friend is running a ton of Dungeon Crawl Classics, and that’s always a good time.
- The Caves of Refuge (The Mines of Misery) – 8 p.m.-midnight, Friday – A Level 0 funnel for Dungeon Crawl Classics.
- Shadow of the Beakmen – 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday – A Level 1 adventure for the Dungeon Crawl Classics.
- The Tower of Lost (The Mines of Misery, Part 2) – 8 p.m.-midnight, Saturday – A Level 1 continuation of The Caves of Refuge.
- Tomb of the Savage Kings – 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday – A Level 2 adventure for for the Dungeon Crawl Classics.
My own Gaslands game will run at 1 p.m. on Saturday and will be a simple race/battle royal. Ideally, I’d work with my son to 3D print some mods for my Matchbox cars with his spiffy 3D printer, but I’ll be content to show up with fully statted-out vehicles and their Matchbox counterparts.
