Halo fans have a new novel through which to explore the video game’s continuum. Halo: The Cole Protocol by Tobias Buckell. The new book chronicles humanity’s desperate quest to erase any and all navigational data that could lead the fundamentalist (and xenocidal) Covenant to Earth.
The action takes place in an immense asteroid field near the planet Hesiod, where humans have taken refuge from the war and entered into a surprising alliance with a Covenant faction.
I haven’t read any Halo fiction, though I’ve been sorely tempted to; I’ve heard good things about the first trilogy of books, and I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for military SF. The Cole Protocol also interests me because Tobias Buckell is a prolific blogger, and he’s spent a lot of time talking about both his craft and the industry.
So to sum up: Halo + Social Media = book I want to buy.
